Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki - Deputy Director And Co-founder Of GPoT

Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki is a scholar, political analyst and civil society activist. She is the Deputy Director and co-founder of the Global Political Trends (GPoT) Center, a policy-oriented research institution, established in 2008 under the auspices of Istanbul Kültür University. Dr. Tiryaki is the former Vice-Chair and a current faculty member of the International Relations Department at Istanbul Kültür University since 2003, where she lectures on International Law, Introduction to Law, Human Rights, History of Political Thought, Constitutional Law and Master's-level seminars on transnational gender-related legal instruments.

She completed her Master's and Doctoral studies at the Faculty of Law at Comenius University in Bratislava. In addition, she holds a second Ph.D. degree in Political Theory, from the European Studies and Politics at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University.

Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki worked as a lawyer from 1996 until 2002. Between 2003 and 2008, she was a senior research fellow and coordinated a series of Cyprus projects at the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV), Foreign Policy Program. Previously a regular columnist at the Turkish Daily News, Dr. Tiryaki writes for various national and international academic journals and newspapers.

She is an expert in the fields of reconciliation and human security, where they pertain to Turkey, Cyprus, Armenia, the European Union, and the Middle Eastern and North African region. Dr. Tiryaki has been serving as an adviser to the World Handicapped Foundation since 2011 and board member of the Human Security Collective.
