During the six sessions of the conference one Norwegian and one Turkish participant will discuss topics such as democratisation in the Middle East, the role of Turkey in the region, and geopolitical changes. During one of these, former director of NUPI and current director of Human Rights Watch Europe, Jan Egeland, and Mensur Akgün will exchange thoughts on Syria and the Arab spring. Akgün is director of the Turkey based think tank Global Political Trends Center (GPoT Center).
In another session, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Thorvald Stoltenberg will have a conversation with Sylvia Tiryaki, deputy director at the GPoT Center. They will discuss what lessons can be drawn from mediation in Cyprus, the Balkans and the Oslo Process.
