Dr. Pavol Demeš is the director for Central and Eastern Europe of the German Marshall Fund of the United States based in Bratislava, Slovakia, a position he has held since 2002. After graduating from Charles University in Prague he worked as a bio-medical researcher at Comenius University in Bratislava. Previously he served as the Executive Director of the Service Center for the Third Sector (SAIA). He was the Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of the Slovak Republic between 1993 and 1997, and the Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1991 and 1992. An internationally recognized NGO leader, Demeš has served on the boards of various national and international associations and foundations.
